This list of colleges is made by me which is based on many different factors such as infrastructure, teaching and reviews online and from Veterinary students I know personally. 

This list of best Veterinary colleges is not arranged on the basis of which college is on spot 1 or 2 but instead, all these colleges are best if you wish to take Veterinary as your career.

Best Government Veterinary colleges in India:

If you want to pursue veterinary as a career, government colleges are the ideal choice to go for. 

As they are government colleges, fees are low compare to other expensive private universities and because of the reputation of colleges all around India and world, this opens up more career opportunities for you if you have a degree from these colleges. 

As getting into these colleges as its ow perks, the requirement is also pretty high for you to get in. So let's discuss each of them.

1. College of Veterinary Science - (Hisar - Haryana) 

College of Veterinary Science in Hisar is a well reputed college in India. It is affiliated with Lal Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Science

This college is some of the best colleges for veterinary with good infrastructure and facilities such as disease-free small animal houses to raise, different species of laboratory animals in the college which creates an ideal environment to learn and interact with animals.

As of now, there is no official update on when admission for 2020-21 will begin. So just make sure to check the official website regularly for any update and I will update it here as well in this article.

One thing from the university website is sure that, admission will be made on the basis of the combined merit list of NEET (UG) - 2020.   

Eligibility: 

From the previous year, to get enrolled in the university minimum eligibility criteria are completion of class 12th with Science stream from any recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 50% for General and 40% for SC/ST.     

2. (GADVASU) Guru Anand Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University - (Ludhiana, Punjab)   

Guru Anand Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University is also famous by the name of GADVASU all over India is one of the best government Veterinary colleges to go for.

Being a government college, infrastructure, faculty and facilities of the college is good. 

College provides you with Library, Auditorium, Hostel, Cafeteria, Laboratory, Hospital, Medical Facilities and good placement. 

The college has a good amount of trained and educated staff with all the modern technology. All the reviews from the students about faculty look satisfying. 

Fees: 

There were no details mentioned on the official website of page, so I surfed through the internet and found the fees of the college.

Admission: 

Admission in this college is on the merit based on the marks you will score in the Competitive University Entrance Exam which is conducted by Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology

This exam is only for bonafide resident students of Uttarakhand if you are from any other state than in that case, you cannot seek direct admission in the college. 

You can also take admission on the base of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) scorecard.

In case you are from any other state, you will have to apply to Veterinary Council of India (VIC), New Delhi. 

Through VIC you will have to submit a separate application and have to give All India Competitive Exam and attend the counselling at New Delhi for seat allotment.

Eligibility: 

As mentioned in the following PDF, to be eligible for the college you will need to pass your class 12th Science with biology from any recognized board and have to score at least 50% aggregate (40% for reserved category) in subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

There is one other eligibility criteria as well, you will have to be at least 17 years of age to apply for this course and the upper limit is 22 years. This upper limit is 25 in case of reserved category such as SC, ST and Physically Damaged. 

4. College of Veterinary and Animal Science - (Bikaner, Udaipur, Jaipur - Rajasthan)

College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner is also known as CVAS Bikaner is reputed government college which was established in 1954.

Infrastructure and Facilities: 

The college infrastructure is good and provides all the basic facilities of Hostel, Guest House, Library, Auditorium, Playground and Gymnasium.

Review of the college staff is good, educated and well trained. This college provides good placement as well as it's well reputed and VIC approved. 

College offers, 5 Years of BVSc course and has 80 seat capacity. 

Fees: 

College fees for BVSc and A.H (Animal Husbandry) course is 15,740Rs per anum and if you are seeking admission from self finance seat than you have to pay 15,740Rs college fee + 2 lacs per year.  

If you are taking admission from merit based then you only have to give general fee amount per anum which is 15,740Rs.

Admission: 

Admission in the college is based on the merit through RPVT competitive entrance examination which is conducted by Rajasthan University of Veterinary & Animal Science

This is only for the student of Rajasthan and if you are from any other state than, you can take admission in 15% open seats on the basis of All India Competitive Exams. (NEET). 

There are certain rules you need to be aware of as mentioned on the official website if you are willing to go to the college. 
  • 80% seats are reserved for Rajasthan Domicile Candidates.
  • 15% of seats are opened for All India Competitive Examination.
  • Number of Regular seats (15,740 Rs fee/annum) is 28 at Bikaner, 40 at Navina (Udaipur) and 40 at Jaipur. 
  • Number of Payment seats (2lac+15,740 fees/year) is 40 at Bikaner, 40 at Navina (Udaipur) and 40 at Jaipur.

Even though college is old, the facilities are not compromised at all. College provides you with Farm, Library, Educational Museum, Health Centre, Lecture and Examination hall and Guest Houses. 

With experienced staff running the college, you can get any information and the guidance you will need here. 

College offers, 5 Years of BVSc course and has 80 seat capacity and the seat distribution is as follow:

Admission is strictly based on student merit in PVT (Pre-Veterinary Test) conducted by DUVASU, Mathura.

For General category and OBC, the student should have scored 50% in pre-primarily as well as the main PVT exam.

For Reserved category (SC/ST) it's 40%.

To be eligible for the college you will need to pass class 12th Science with Biology from any recognized board and have to score at least 50% aggregate (40% for reserved category) in subject English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

6. Birsa Agriculture University - (Ranchi, Jharkhand)

Birsa agriculture university is a huge university which offers many different programs. Out the many departments of the university, one is College of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry founded in 1961.

Infrastructure: 

It has one of the rich infrastructure university if you want to go for Veterinary. 

University provides you with the facility such as Central Library, Digital Library, Computer Centre, Hospital, Hostel, Guest House, Laboratories for Entrepreneurial Development, Special Conference Halls and Physical facilities. 

Almost everything you will need to become a skilful Veterrinarian. 

Fees: 

Being a government college, fees are less compared to many private as well as government colleges out there

Admission: 

Admission in Birsa Agriculture University is done on merit basis in this college as well. 15% seats are for a student with AIQ (All India Quota) after giving the Combined Entrance Exam Conducted by VCI (Veterinary Council of India).

Rest 85% of seats are filled on the basis of merit of Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (J.C.E.C.E.B), Ranchi which is only for Jharkhand domicile students. 

Registration for J.C.E.C.E.B has been already started for the academic year 2020-21. The last date of registration is 8th August - 2020.

7. College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry - (Jabalpur, Mhow, Rewa - Madhya Pradesh)

College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Jabalpur also known as CVSAH Jabalpur is also a good reputed Veterinary government college of India, established in 1948.

This college is affiliated with Nanji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur and is VIC (Veterinary Council of India) approved. So this college will be a great option as well to go for. 

Infrastructure: 

Being an old university has its own perks apart from being reputed. One of those perks is having good faculty and infrastructure. 

This college provides you with the facility such as Clinical diagnostic laboratory, Sall and Large animal hospitals, Six lecture halls with LCD facility, Auditorium, Livestock Farm, Poultry Farm, Hostels for boys and girls, Medical facilities and Playground.

The fees of the college is 44,438Rs per year for BVSc Program. You can check the detailed fee distribution here.

According to the official website of CVSAH, the entrance in university is merit based on exam conducted by M.P Professional Examination Board or by Veterinary Council of India (NEET)

Veterinary is five and half year course in this university. You can take admission by two means 1. Admission under State quota (85%) and 2. Admission Under All India Quota (15%). 

Under State Quota: 85% seats in State quota is filled with combined counseling which is conducted by ANGRAU (Acharya N.G Ranga Agriculture University) on the basis of merit in APEAMCET which stands for Andra Pradesh Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test. 

There is 25% reservation in state quota for farmers family quota whose parents having 3 acres of agricultural land and candidate must have studied a minimum periods of 4 years in rural areas

Just for reference, 1st year fee in Bombay Veterinary University is around 52760/-Rs for Maharashtra state candidates and 53260/-Rs for other state candidates. This was just for general category, for detailed fee structure of each category refer to the link above.

As there was no accurate figure given on the official website of the college. I researched about it and found the college fee is around 1,50,000-/Rs per year for BVSc & AH course. 

This amount can be subjected to change as well. 

Admission: 

The college has 60 seats for BVSc & AH and as there were no admission details present on the official website, one thing which is sure is that they do take admission based on your NEET UG score

Eligibility: 

To be eligible for the college you will need to pass class 12th Science with 50% aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST) with Biology from any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as your subjects.

There's one other eligibility criteria as well, you will have to be at least 17 years of age to apply for this course and upper age limit is 22 years for all the candidates, 25 years in case of SC/ST and 27 years for Physically Disabled. 

12. (TANUVAS) Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University - Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University is also known as TANUVAS is one of the top most university for Veterinary in India, with rich infrastructure and all the facility and the best faculty, you will find all these here.

As I told you earlier, all the 4 institutions are good with the best facilities and faculty.

Fees: 

As there was no accurate figure given on the official website of the college. I researched about it and found the college fee is around 25,000-/Rs per year for BVSc & AH course.

As expected, fees in these 2 colleges are high compared to a government college. So if you are someone who is looking to get into Veterinary I would recommend checking for government colleges first.

This college is second in our list if you are considering to go to private college for Veterinary Science.

Well, Veterinary is a wonderful course to go for and I still recommend to go for any government college mentioned above if you want to pursue veterinary. All the colleges are equally respectable and good. 

Do check the official websites of colleges frequently for any update as there can be a change in the mentioned information above. 

One last thing is if you are someone who is dreaming to go for veterinary, then as you may know by now, the minimum eligibility criteria are at least 50% aggregate in PCB or PCBE for general category students and 40% aggregate for reserved category student.
