What does suborder anthropoidea mean ? | STUDENT BABA

Everyone evolves, even we have evolved from our ancestors to being a human being. Today we are going to talk about sub-order anthropoidea what does it mean ? What are the classifications ? and the relationship between apes and human beings.

What does suborder anthropoidea mean ?

Before we know what does suborder anthropoidea mean, first let's understand the terms suborder and anthropoidea. After knowing the meaning of these terms it will be more easy for you to understand what suborder anthrpoidea means.

Suborder - The word suborder is used to classify between plant kingdom or animal kingdom. It means that a particular species is related to a family but with some extra modifications.

Anthropoidea - Anthropoidea is a group of primate which includes monkey, apes and humans.

Now, if you look at the word suborder anthropoidea, you will know that it means. Suborder anthropoidea means another group of primates which is closely related to the original group of primates but ranks below them.

Sub-order anthropoidea includes:

The sub-order anthropoidea is classified into three types:-

New world monkeys:

They are found in South and Central America. They have flat noses and their nostrils are widely sperated, they have long tails which makes it easy to seize them and they have 36 teeth. eg, spider monkey, squirrel monkey, etc.

Old world monkeys:

They are found in tropical regions like Africa and Asia. Unlike new world monkeys they have narrow noses, short tails which cannot be seized and have 32 teeth. eg, baboons, langurs, etc.

Hominoidea:

Hominoidea includes apes and man. It is said that they have evolved from their ancestors.

Apes:

Apes are simians found in Africa and Southeast Asia. They have a projecting face with slanting forehead, the snout is extended beyond a surface with a flat nose and have large teeth. A gap is present between on the upper jaw between their incisor (frontal teeth) and canines (side teeth) which gives them long lower jaw canine, this gap is called as a simian gap. There is absence of chin, lumbar curve and tail. The forelimbs are longer than the hind limbs and the pelvic griddle is narrow and long. Apes have a semi-erect posture.

Modern world apes are gibbons, orangutans, chimpanzees and gorillas. The cranial capacity is 400 to 600c.c.

Human being:

Humans have a orthognathous (a jaw that does not project forward) face, developed forehead, skulls are shaped like a dome, nose is placed higher, the dental arc has a curve (rounded), smaller jaws, developed chin, developed lumbar curve, an erect posture and the forelimbs are shorter than hind limbs. The cranial capacity is 1450c.c.

Conclusion:

So, sub-order anthropoidea are of 3 types which are found in different parts of the world. Hominoidea are classified in two types which are apes and human beings and share a almost a lot of characteristics with each other.
